Dr. Tam’s patients describe him as thorough, clear and deeply caring about their welfare and vision. His volunteer work has taken him to Central and South America, and more locally, to conducting vision screenings for schools in Austin. When not treating patients, he enjoys exploring Austin – especially enjoying the great food!
Have you ever dreamed about having great vision without glasses or contacts?
Ortho-K lenses gently reshape your cornea while you sleep, so you have great vision while you are awake. This amazing technology is available for both children and adults who are tire of hassling with glasses!
Do you suffer from dryness, scratchiness or burning in your eyes?
You may have Dry Eye Syndrome, a condition that can be treated. After conducting an eye exam, Dr. Colin Tam will recommend treatment, which may include prescription eyedrops, nutritional supplements, or punctal plugs.

Dr. Tam Answers Your Eye Care Questions
Can diabetes be seen during an eye exam?
Diagnosis is usually from a routine physical with blood tests, but those who don’t get a check up will notice frequent urination, thirst, hunger, fatigue and blurry vision. The blurry vision is from the blood sugar elevation in the eyes changing the refraction to more myopic or near sighted vision. This vision fluctuates with the blood sugar levels. More severe cases can lead to blindness. It is important to have the eyes dilated and evaluated for leakages of blood or fluids. If there are enough changes, a retinal surgeon can use laser photocoagulation to help stop the leakages. All of this is monitored with a routine eye exam. So if you know of anyone who needs a diabetic eye check, have them see me.
